The subject was a still life in my studio - I bought some roses from Hannaford, added a satin ribbon leftover from Christmas, some artificial oranges gathered around a favorite lamp at the opposite end of the studio. After the setup I moved my easel and tables to the scene. At first, I used some transparent paints to lay in the composition. Gradually, I started abstracting the shapes using new color combinations to liven up the piece. At the end, I took out most of the right side with lime green, a good resting place for the eye amidst the chaotic color.
