Harmony, the title, describes the contentment of winter, my studio and an unstructured time. The setting for this painting was a snowy day in January. I bought tulips and set up still life at the other end of the studio. I moved my easel, palette table and all my supplies and started with a watercolor technique using oil paint and Gamsol. Once the composition was done, I used heavier oil paint to create a "fat and lean" painting.
I set up a still life with real and fake daffodils, knowing the real ones would fade away before I could finish. As I worked through the process, surprises happened, as they do when using thin, watery glazes. I used a plethora of yellows from Old Holland, Williamsburgh and Gamblin - Nickel Yellow, Cadmium Yellow Deep, Cobalt Yellow, to name a few. Daffodils are a shout out to leave winter behind and I'm so glad Spring is here.
Revealed Itself is a painting with a calm palette with an interesting composition. Experimenting with shapes and integration of them in one piece, the vase shape and table are one.
This familiar scene with emerald and earthy saturated greens and grey sky creates a mood of relaxed enjoyment near the landmark. The Champlain Canal and Erie Canal has favorite trails for all ages. This scene also reminds me of Kirkside Park, Roxbury, NY and my first sketching experience there as an elementary student. The park is a treasure to the community and with my deepest memory it's here to be enjoyed.
